I changed the chords and melody structure here to give the song a more even flow (at least to my ears).
I used to sing this song for my Grandmother. She lived in Dublin on Whitworth Road by the banks of the Royal Canal. Right where Patrick Kavanagh’s bench was. She would give me 5p to sing but I would have sang for her all day for free. This is my version of this song and has very little resemblance to other versions of the folk song.
